Touchstone — Trading Journal
Runs on your own Windows PC. Nothing is installed. No internet needed.

START IN THREE STEPS
--------------------

  1. Unzip the folder anywhere — your Desktop is fine.
  2. Double-click Start Touchstone
  3. Log in: trader / trader

A black window opens and counts down. Your browser opens by itself when
the server answers. Leave that black window open while you use the app —
closing it stops the program. To start again, double-click once more.

The journal starts empty. There is nothing in it but your own entries.

IF WINDOWS COMPLAINS
--------------------

Windows will probably show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen,
because this is not signed software from a shop. Click "More info", then
"Run anyway".

Your virus scanner may also hold it for a moment. It is looking at
node.exe, the engine the app runs on. It is the standard one from
nodejs.org, unmodified.

IF IT DOES NOT START
--------------------

Browser does not open Go to http://127.0.0.1:3000 yourself.

"Port already in use" Something else is on port 3000. Close it, or
close the black window and start again.

  Black window closes
immediately Unzip it properly first. Running it from
inside the zip does not work — Windows gives
the program no folder to write to.

WHAT IT IS FOR
--------------

A journal for futures trades. You log what you did, and it reads back
whether it worked: win rate, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown, and
the same figures split by setup, session and time of day.

Everything is measured in R — one R being a fixed amount you set once,
not the risk you happened to take on a given trade. That is deliberate:
it is the only way a trade taken four times too large shows up as four
times the loss instead of hiding as a normal one.

You can type trades in by hand or import a Tradovate Orders export.

YOUR DATA STAYS WITH YOU
------------------------

Everything lives in one file inside the folder: data\journal.db. It
never leaves your PC. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no account.

To back it up, copy that file. To start over, delete it and restart.
To move to another PC, copy the whole folder.

IF YOU HAVE A MOMENT TO SAY SOMETHING BACK
------------------------------------------

The useful kind of feedback is specific: what you did, what you expected,
and what happened instead. A number that looks wrong is worth more than
a feature idea — if a figure on screen does not match what you know to be
true, that is the thing to report.

Windows only. There is a Windows engine inside, so it will not run on a
Mac or on Linux.
